Camping here at the Rabbit Hole Ranch is primitive and dispersed \(no numbered sites\) and there 30 acres available for you to use\. Just follow the signs to the designated area and pick out a spot you like\. Some spots have fire rings, some don’t\. We are working on getting more, but in the meantime you’re welcome to bring your own\. Or feel free to dig out a little hole\. It works great and is easy to extinguish when you fill it back in and bury it\. Please do not bury any trash\. Typically, you will experience a rare kind of solitude and silence that feels…\. other\-worldly, with incredible sunrises and sunsets filling the enormous skies\. On holidays, however, expect it to be busy\. Our dogs are working dogs and they are more than happy to help keep you and your pets safe\. Please help make their jobs easier by not leaving any food or trash in or around tents\. Please keep your pets on leash or under control until you’re comfortably certain they get along with our dogs\. And please report any issues promptly\. This year we have a new Great Pyrenees to greet you, her name is Boudicca and she’s excited to meet everyone\! Returning this season is 12 year old KayLee, also a GP and and Finn, our little dude from Alaska\. Quiet time begins at 10:00 pm\. Note: Holidays still offer the excellent location and spectacular views, but are likely to be less quiet and far more busy\. With Hipcamp it appears that there’s only seven or so sites but when we were arrived around early evening, driving in to the location, all the spots were filled, but yet there were over double the number of campers strewn all over a vague area that had pull outs and alike. Only a few places had actual fire pits. The remaining were just open Areas covered in sage brush when we reached out to the host about both the site and the Firewood we were told we just camp wherever we did receive the firewood and the individual was quite nice, but we literally had to drive over brush into a small open area to find a camp area. Well, this is really convenient to great sand dunes national Park. The layout itself could be considerably better with just a little bit of grading of the property and creating of spots. The biggest thing that concerned us was the fire that we started with the wood that was provided, which was a nice feature was unfortunately done on open ground, and in that part of Colorado was quite dry at the time so the risk of fire in our minds was probably greater than it should’ve been without a proper fire pit. We plan to go back to great Sand dunes national Park later this year, but this will definitely not be a location. Close enough to the Sand Dunes Park as well as other awesome things to do including Colorado Gator Farm and Sand Dunes Recreation Center. Had two families of 4 staying and it was the perfect amount of space. We had the place to ourselves pretty much for the first couple days and then other campers showed up but it there was still plenty of space between sites. Our kids did all the exploring they could and there was still space to explore more. The ranch dogs are amazing, sweet, friendly, and protective they scared off some critters while hanging out with us. Only thing I can think of that was a bit of a bummer was the trek to the bathroom being a little far from where we set up camp, but it was clean and honestly it was nice to even have a portapotty on the property.
