Sherwood Forest Visitors Centre and Edwinstowe village host an annual Robin Hood Festival each August\. The nearby towns of Newark – fine market square, civil war castle, riverside location on the River Trent –, Retford – market and former coaching town on the old Great North Road –, Southwell – market town with the 13th century minster church –, Lincoln – cathedral and county town, are all worth a visit\.
