This 17\-acre site has diverse habitats, from an upland pine and hardwood forest to wild native meadows full of blueberries, asters and milkweed\. The most special feature is a large tributary and creek waterway system with areas of wetland\. Once choked with invasive plants, it is now a largely restored native plant and wildlife habitat that supports migrating herons, trout, amphibians and clouds of Monarch and other butterflies\. In the fall I've seen Monarchs circle up in vortexes from the meadows and take off on their migration\. There are several large swimming holes where the creek turns or joins with its tributary\. Bridges have been installed over the tributary and over brooklets feeding into it\. A lot of care and love is going into this land\. Over 500 native trees planted along the creek banks are growing into a forest \- you'll see many still in protective tubes and cages\. Thousands of native pollinator ground\-plants have been planted or sprung up on their own, some like tiny flowering gems on the shady forest floors\. The old stone walls running through the property and around its boundaries speak to its history as a farm and an apple orchard\. Swimming, hiking, fishing and bird\-and\-wildlife watching will fascinate you in this dynamic landscape that is constantly coming closer to what used to exist hundreds of years ago and is now reestablishing itself\. In the vicinity, there's Tetta's, a deli/cafe/gas station and small emporium with made\-to\-order pizza, local raw honey, mushroom, crafts, and all kinds of food, pretty much everything you need; it's been in the family for generations\. Find it Northeast on Samsonville Road \(County Rt\. 3\) at the junctions of Rts\. 2 & 3\. There's a hike to a waterfall if you drive a few miles down Upper Cherrytown Road from the end of Sundown Road: you'll see a parking lot with signs for the falls; the DEC\-maintained trail is across the road \(https://www\.catskillmountaineer\.com/SD\-vernooy\-falls\-east\.html\)\. There's venues nearby along Rt\. 209 with local musicians on Saturday nights: places like The Outpost Barbeque, 6611 Rt\. 209 in Kerhonkson, Lydia's Cafe at 7 Old US Hwy 209, Stone Ridge\. Near Lydia's is a favorite afternoon hang\-out, Cherries Roadside and General, which not only has literally hundreds of ice cream flavors, but an excellent, informal restaurant\. I can talk to you about many other fun places\.

"reviewBody": "We traveled with our college-aged kids to this lovely little campsite for an overnight stay. The large tent was very clean and well appointed with one queen-sized bed and a couch that made a second bed with an extra mattress. There are some chairs and little porch on the front of the tent which was very nice. The tent protected us from the bugs and we brought a portable fan to keep the air moving on a very hot day and the temperature was fine for sleeping. There was a very clean outhouse and a firepit which we took advantage of. \n\nAlthough the camp site itself is among other properties so you are not completely alone, the meadow behind and the walk to the steam and swimming holes is lovely. A great deal of care has been taken to restore the property's original vegetation and it was a truly beautiful location. We would recommend this location to anyone looking for a simple getaway. \n\nA note: There is no water on site, so we recommend bringing in enough for the evening and the next morning including water for washing up after dinner. The next day we stopped by the host's house and refilled our water in the bathing area she has set up there. It was easy to find and not that far away. "

"reviewBody": "We had a wonderful time camping at Judith's beautiful campsite. My kids loved the swimming hole and the fire pit, and the tent was a really comfortable setup for 4 people. Judith was a lovely host -- she made sure we had plenty of dry firewood, that the campsite was in perfect condition after a big rainstorm, and that we knew exactly how to find the location. We're pretty inexperienced campers, with young kids, and this was so comfortable and easy, we are already talking about when we might come again!"

"reviewBody": "This was our first Hipcamp experience, and Judith's Monarch Meadow site was amazing! The instructions were very clear, and the photos don't do the site justice 😉 the tent is super spacious with a couple wooden chairs, a sofa that converts into a bed (I think, we didn't need it), and a queen size bed with sheets/comforter/pillows and more bedding if you need it. The picnic table needed a little leveling but we had no issues cooking a camping feast during our stay. The fire pit was awesome and super cozy with a stack of dry wood provided. The compost toilet was clean and what we expected - being able to take a hot shower after hiking and wandering the camp's trails and meadows behind Judith's house was needed and we were grateful for this special setup. \n\nThe land itself is a marvel in native flora and fauna! We are fans of sustainability and regenerative planting and it was cool to hear a little about how Judith has transformed this area. We had a great time, bugs were fine with an Off natural (citronella and eucalyptus oils) insect repellent. I highly recommend exploring the meadows, woods, streams, and swimming holes!"
