# Hayles Fruit Farm

> Human version: http://ssr-app-zpimxgrglq-uc.a.run.app/listings/campgrounds/hayles-fruit-farm-cheltenham-gloucestershire

The farm was originally planted in 1880 by Lord Sudeley\. Although the name may suggest it was in some way connected to the Castle this was not the case\.At this time Lord Sudeley also planted a further four fruit farms on the outskirts of Winchcombe although regrettably these have long since been removed\. The land was originally planted with apples and cob nuts and in fact we still have some of the original cob nuts and one original Bramley tree left\. This can be viewed from the Gillettes nature trail\.Now, more than 100 years on, Hayles Fruit Farm continues to operate as a commercial venture\. The Harrell family, who have been farming at Hailes since 1950 continue to farm 134 acres of mixed fruit\.Traditionally the fruit was marketed through the local wholesale markets but as the business developed they were to become part of a co\-operative organisation in order to market their fruit more effectively\. This saw the introduction of selling to the supermarket chains\. With the viability of growing English fruit very borderline our diversification programme was then born\.CaravansYou cannot get more rural than this small secluded site situated on the edge of the farm\.We are affiliated to the Camping and Caravan Club\.As you can see we can guarantee peace and tranquillity\. Although you may be disturbed by Roe Deer, Muntjac and foxes\.Caravan Pitches are available with electric hook\-up and ample room for an awning\.Tents are also welcome \- because the farm is situated on the Cotswold Way it is an ideal stop off for back packers\.Other facilities include:\- Toilet and Shower block\- Fresh water \- Waste disposal\- Farmshop \- Tea room/Restaurant\.An Area of Outstanding BeautyThe farm is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty \(AONB\) and also an Environmentally Sensitive Area \(ESA\)\.With the above factors in mind we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously\.All our fruit is grown to a very high standard of production and we are members of The Assured Produce Scheme we also practice INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT \(IPM\) and Natural Biological Control\.The Assured Product SchemeThis scheme was set up in 1998 to provide a Protocol for sound environmental and managerial techniques embracing IPM within British Horticulture\. It is an initiative that was grasped by British growers and we can now hold our heads up and say that British food is probably the safest in the world\.The scheme was set up in collaboration with the major British supermarkets the National Farmers Union \(NFU and professional advisors\.Integrated Pest Management \(IPM\) and Natural Biological ControlBy using sound environmental and management techniques we encourage predatory insects to live in the crop and to feed on harmful pests thus reducing the need for insecticides\.Worth noting is that all our Strawberries and Raspberries are insecticide free\!Working FarmBecause we are a working farm you will see activity sometimes even at weekends so just keep a look out and please ask any staff if you have any questions\.We welcome all our visitors with a range of things to see, do and visit\. Sample the culinary delights of the Tearoom or take home fresh produce from the Farm Shop\. For a longer stay, lovers of the outdoors can enjoy our Caravan and Camping facilities\. We are within 50 minutes of the Cotswold Way so its very convenient for backpackers\. Additionally, our Nature trail has probably one of the most stunning views of the Cotswold Way you will experience\. Visitors can also look forward to the tranquillity of a days Coarse Fishing or the delights of picking your own fruit\. \(A real treat for the children\)\.Coarse PitchesWe have two waters available\.The LakeApproximately 11/2 acres in size with just ? pegs\. Very exclusive and very tranquil\.Originally constructed by the monks at Hailes Abbey\. This water is hundreds of years old and is still unspoilt\. A truly tranquil experience, very pretty, with a beautiful island in the middle\.This water lends itself to private parties of fishermen looking for something different\.Species:Mirror and Common Carp up to 20lbs in weight\.Rudd up to 1lb in weight\.The ReservoirIts main function on the farm is to provide water for the crops that surround it\. Dramatically enlarged in 1977 after the drought of 1976\. Much more open than the lake and a little cheaper\.As you can see from the photograph, this water is also incredibly picturesque and parties of up to 15 fishermen can be accommodated\.
