When we got to the site there were no instructions and it took us a while to actually find the host, who informed us that dispute having booked and paid for our trip weeks before there “were no reservations” but he would see what sites were free. there were no spot numbers, designated parking spots, etc. he took us to a site that had a tent platform, which would have been nice in theory, but our tent requires stakes to be set up, as many do, so this should have been communicated beforehand. I sent him a message when we realized our tent would not work on the platform, and did not hear back for an entire day. the outhouse is also not maintained in any way. though the location is good and we made the most of the site, I cannot recommend it to others when there are many better options in the area. " }, { "@type": "Review", "author": { "@type": "Person", "name": "Erik S." }, "datePublished": "July 31, 2024", "reviewBody": "I found Birth Gate quite and secluded which was nice. it was extremely buggy- but that’s nature. i did find the sites to be very narrow. so if you’re driving anything bigger than a normal car or extremely small SUV- it might be challenging for you to park at your site. one of the sites has a tent pad- so if your using a tent- that’s the best one. our site was slightly slanted which did make it a little tough to fall asleep. all those are excusable, but the outhouse was not pleasant to use. it’s a composting toilet- which i’m fine with- but there needs to be some sawdust/wood shavings in there to help with the smell. a quick search found that even coffee grounds can help. if i had to do #2 while staying there- i honestly would have used the woods instead of that thing- it was that bad. that was my only real complaint.
