The national park began buying land near us in the 1970's and the boundary line to the park is a half\-mile from Moonshadow Camp\. The area is surrounded by state forests and many hiking and biking trails\. Our valley is known for incredible stargazing\. Amenities include full access to the Camp kitchen and dining area\. You will also have access to a Portable restroom and hand washing station which is located by our BIG BARN\. Hot Showers, no problem, you can enjoy a secluded private shower in our shower house which has indoor and outdoor showers\. Nearby is Lake Michigan and Esch Rd beach\. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake shore is nearby and The National Park is famous for attractions , trails, and hiking\. The overall amenities (portajohns, kitchen, shower house) were tired and did not live up to our expectations based on the photos/ description/ reviews. It felt minimally maintained and very DIY (electrical, plumbing, etc).\nWe followed all instructions from host for check in, which said to go directly to the site we reserved. They said they would come by to introduce themselves, but never did…. Until 9:45 at night when we were about to go to sleep. \n\n It startled us to have someone come our camp after dark and further, they accused us of being in the wrong site/ or not having a reservation at all. This was categorically false and the host texted us later saying “we were all good”. Well no kidding. They also mentioned that they had been “dealing with a lot” recently which we did not know how to interpret but made us even more uncomfortable and made us wonder if there may have been safety issues with other campers recently. They have signs all over warning you not to leave food/ trash out to avoid attracting bears. There is no where to deposit trash and other campers left food out in the shared kitchen overnight. \n\nOverall it was an underwhelming experience and we would look elsewhere.
