Camping in the OrchardHello and WelcomeABOUT BOUNCERS FARM CAMPSITEWelcome to Bouncers Farm, home to the Bishop family for 3 generations\. The farm covers 22 acres \(8\.9 hectares\) and is made up of land sloping gently southwest towards Danbury\.The land is a mix of gravel, clay and sand reflected in its previous agricultural use as an orchard\. The last commercial use of the farm as an orchard was approximately 1987 but due to the lack of income provided by orchards this was discontinued and the land changed use to pasture\.The campsite has a delightful aspect sloping to the south, situated in a quiet wooded area creating a warm and friendly atmosphere\. Experience the wonders of the orchard – blossom \(First week of May\) and picking from August through to October\. Bouncers also allows the visitor to experience the delightful character of the free range chickens, the Kune Kune pigs and the flock of rare breed sheep\.Bouncers Farm is hidden away down a narrow lane with high banks on either side, the trees forming a tunnel overhead with their arching branches\. This part of Wickham Bishops used to be a thriving apple\- growing area and a few of the orchards remain today giving the lane a rural feeling\.For most of the time it is quite with little noise intrusion the silence broken only by the song of birds, of which there are many varieties\. At nighttime there are the calls of owls and occasionally the bark of a fox\-it is a special place to be\. The view from Bouncers Farm overlooks the water meadows and the River Blackwater with Danbury in the distance, this view hasn’t changed much since my grandfather built Bouncers in 1935\.Bouncers is fortunate enough to be blessed with a network of footpaths enabling the holiday maker to reach Maldon and Chelmsford without needing to use the highway\. Cycle routes maintained by Essex County council along the Maldon – Chelmsford Navigation and the Blackwater Rail track connecting Witham to Maldon enable the use of green sustained transport\.East Anglian Farm Rides promotes the use of farm land for the horse rider\. From Wickham Bishops there are rides connecting Maldon, Tiptree, Witham, Kelvedon to name but a few\. The provision of carriage driving further enhances the attraction of Bouncers to the visitor\.Bouncers Farm currently hosts the very popular “Opera in the Orchard” weekend \(currently in its 9th year\)AccomodationGypsy Campsite: Sleeps 4: The Gypsy Campsites’ two bowtop wagons are genuine articles, carefully restored and set amongst apple trees\. The bowtops are the bedrooms and the bender tent with the day bed and the wood\-burner makes it ideal for daytime living and cooking plus a very cosy place in the evenings with the log burner lit\. The Farm makes an ideal place for families or friends travelling together to escape to and enjoy the changing seasons from the abundant apple and cherry blossom in the spring, lambs dancing around in the adjacent fields, the blue bells in the 300yr old copse, apple picking in the autumn\. The coast and its many little\-known beaches just four miles away, central London an hour by train, it's an unusual and easy escape\.The Buccaneer Trailer:Sleeps 2/4 an original beautifully restored 1950’s Gypsy accommodation, sleeps 2 plus generous sitting area with a wood\-burner\.
