He prefers to use locally grown timber from sustainable or storm damaged sources as much as possible\. However, sometimes he also likes to use foreign hardwoods such as Bubinga for its rich colour and grain or Padouk \(carrot orange in colour\) and many other varieties, but again, all from sustainable forests around the world\. Another of his favourites is Yew, the deep red hue of the heartwood and the contrasting creamy colour of its sapwood quite often makes stunning pieces of work\.One thing most people have in common is that they are drawn to feel and hold and sometimes even smell items made from wood, this is where it is unlike any other medium to work with\.The Quarry \- a site of archaeological and geological scientific interest at Betton FarmThe Betton Farm Quarry is an exciting future project\.The Quarry is classed as an SSSI, a site of special scientific interest, but is not as yet open to our visitors as it is undergoing careful clearing in preparation for further geological examination\. Later it was buried beneath sand made of tiny shell fragments\.According to the Geological Conservation Review the Betton Farm Quarries show the best example of Thamnasteria patch reefs in the Yorkshire Corallian, with a rich associated molluscan fauna, notably gastropods, occurring both in and around the reefs\. This is an important paleoecological locality in the classic Yorkshire Corallian\.Once the site has been thoroughly surveyed it will be open for visits and there will be interpretation boards at the site to show you what to look out for\.
